Paint.NET Review

This is a free application for editing various images and photos. Its functionality has been continuously improved after the initial release in 2004. To get the most out of it, a user is suggested to turn to friendly help and tutorials. Though in total it is extremely easy to apply this app, at that the results may be compared to such extremely powerful and reputable products as Adobe Photoshop or Corel Draw. It is remarkably fast to download an app even at the average device.

Design and Usability 10/10

The app is installed easily and fast onto any devices and updated automatically without much disturbance. User gets the newest features and best improvements. Provider tries to fix any drawbacks revealed during the running of a previous version and consider users’ needs. So, you can count on an extremely intuitive and simple interface. All elements are designed to be learned without much assistance from experts. Every release is full of new features, but the interface remains recognizable, so a user does not feel confused when seeing the renewed software.

Key Functions 10/10

The app supports for layers, offers a wide range of special effects, as well as helpful tools, allows making unlimited undo. It can open several images simultaneously and suggests a tabbed document interface which looks like a web browser. Navigation is very simple that is why it does not take a lot of time to edit pictures. Click only once, and you’ll see a new image. You can rotate images, remove red eyes and noise, sharpen. There are a zoom effect and plenty of adjustments. User can change hues, brightness, contrast or in general apply black-and-white mode. If you want to draw shapes, you can find various tools on the menu arranged leftwards. In general, you’ll find here title, menu, tool, and status bars. There is a primitive but still useful text editor.

Security 10/10

The app supports various file formats, and no data is lost when the processed image is saved as new.

Conclusion

First, it appeared as a college design project under the umbrella of Microsoft, and it was thought it to become a free replacement for the Microsoft analogic software coming in a pack with Windows. But gradually this app has been upgraded and become a powerful editor tool for the user without special skills. The developer promises that the next wave of features will be even better and more challenging.

Paint.NET is provided free of charge, but there is edition marketed under trialware license at not too high price. Anyway, you have a choice. We highly recommend this application.
